Handmade British Leather Cartridge Pouch – American Revolution - Based on Extant examples
Authentic reproduction of a British cartridge pouch with optional wood block and buff crossbelt, American Revolution period — handmade using period techniques.
Manufacture
Every pouch is crafted entirely by hand; no machinery is used in any stage of production. Cutting, stitching, skiving, and edge finishing are performed with traditional hand tools and time-honored methods to match the look and construction of extant examples.
Materials are selected to reflect period accuracy: solid wooden blocks where specified and historically appropriate thread and fastenings. Leather is hand-shaped and hand-stitched using saddle-stitch or other period-appropriate stitches. Edges are hand-burnished or left as historically consistent.
Construction follows primary-source documentation and surviving originals. Reinforcements, flap shaping, internal compartments, and rivet placement are executed to replicate original layout and function. Each step is quality-checked to ensure authenticity and durability consistent with reenactment use.
Sling and wood block (optional)
When included together, the wood block and sling form a carefully researched pair: the block is hand‑carved and shaped to fit the pouch according to surviving period examples, then finished to a smooth, historically appropriate profile, while the sling is hand‑cut and formed to period proportions with all fittings hand‑sewn or hand‑set as required, producing a cohesive, authentic assembly that reflects traditional materials, workmanship, and practical proportions.
Color options for the sling / crossbelt
Natural: left in the buff leather’s natural tone, allowing the subtle variations and character of the leather to show.
White: finished to a historically appropriate white buff tone.
Black: dyed and finished to a consistent black suitable for display and active use.
Customization
All products are custom made to the buyer’s description. Specify interior arrangement, presence or absence of the wood block, sling length, sling color and any other historically appropriate variations you require.
Custom requests are matched against documented period examples; where a requested variation departs from common historic practice, the piece will be made to spec but noted as a modern adaptation.
Lead time, final fit, and any adjustments are discussed prior to construction to ensure the finished piece meets both practical needs and authenticity expectations.
